Local school, N. Forrest High, announced that they would rename the school mascot to “ICE Agents” in order to have a more inclusive icon than their controversial prior mascot, “the Slavers.”
When introducing the change, School Superintendent Jeff Davis VIII stated, “after the Black Lives Matter movement erupted around the United States, it became clear to our school board that our beloved Slavers mascot was misunderstood, and despite being nothing more than a reflection of southern pride and the fight for states rights, we thought it would be a good time to move on and chose an inclusive icon; one that would still put fear in the hearts of our rival schools and yet better represent the rich diversity of the many men and women, mostly men, who serve to protect our nation’s borders.”
The ICE Agents mascot was selected after a community vote by PTA parents with a slate of proposed names. The unsuccessful alternate mascots losing the vote were: IRS Agents,Telemarketers (finished second in voting), Q Anon Shaman, Donald J. Trump, and Antifa. The PTA names committee was chaired by US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene who said, “after a long process, we’re so happy that we found something that can really bring the community together around our shared southern values and make America great again.”
GND reporters also sought out comment from students at Forrest High. Sarah Smith, a graduating Senior said, “I literally can not process this right now and just wish all the old people would just shut up and go away.” School administrators at the scene commented that Sarah appeared confused and angry when they tried to speak with her after the interview.
Tom Bradbury, the sophomore class president said, “seriously, I can’t believe this crap is still happening in America, what the…” and walked away without further comment also.
It is still unclear if the school board intends to make the change before the town’s new “All Lives Matter” parade. However, Superintendent Davis made it clear that the name change would take place no later than the anti-vaccination drive scheduled to coincide with back to school week.
